2022 UPCOMING THERAPY GROUPS 

We are offering the following LGBTQ+ Therapy Groups beginning March 2022.  Please call 815-639-0300 for questions and to register for group. 


Due to the Covid pandemic, we are enacting the following safety guidelines:

  • small groups limited to no more than 10 people
  • requiring masks be worn by all group members (we can provide a mask if you don't have one)
  • groups held in our waiting room to allow for 6 feet social distancing
  • several hand sanitization stations are located throughout our center
  • ask that all clients not attend group if not feeling well, especially with any Covid symptoms
  • sanitization of surfaces is done before and after groups
  • all staff are Covid tested weekly

​​Spectrum of Rockford L.G.B.T.+ Counseling is a program of the Harmony Center for Holistic Psychotherapy.  Spectrum was founded in 2008 by Dr. Breisch and a team of L.G.B.T. counselors.  It was created to provide counseling and resource services to the L.G.B.T.+ community due to a lack of social support services in the Rockford, IL area.  We are proud to be the only agency in the area that provides counseling services, resources, testing, networking, and referrals to this great L.G.B.T.I.Q.A.+ community!

MEN’S THERAPY GROUP (ADULTS AGE 18+)


​DATES AND TIMES: Begins Friday, March 4, 2022 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and will meet
every Friday (except holidays) for an ongoing group.  People can join at anytime!
Must call to pre-register for group at 815-639-0300.


       This therapy group is for adult men who identify as gay/bisexual/pansexual+ and for men who are questioning their sexual orientation.  Participants can range from being out of the closet for a long-time, those who are newly out, or those who are not ready to come out.  Group sessions will focus on ways to increase healthy coping skills and improve mental health symptoms.  Group topics will include but are not limited to: understanding sexual orientation, healthy dating and safe sex practices, relationships with partners/family/friends/society, self-esteem, effective communication, assertiveness training, stress management, coping with discrimination or prejudice at home/work/school/society, advocacy/activism for LGBTQIA+ rights, LGBTQIA+ resources, and more!

Come out and say hello to the Spectrum of Rockford LGBT+ Counseling Program staff - look for the pink tent!  We'll be selling pride stuff and Kristy will be doing massages.  Dr. Lisa Breisch is a featured guest speaker, with other guest speakers, starting at 7:00 p.m.


There will be several food vendors and local shop vendors!  Highlights of the event include a drag queen bingo, car parade, grand prize raffle, live bands, DJs, pop-up drag show and more! Local drag celebrities and representatives from area LGBTQ and allied organizations, including key officials from the State and the City of Rockford are expected to attend.  This event is FREE and open to the public of all ages!

TEEN LGBTQI+ THERAPY GROUP (AGES 12-17)

DATES AND TIMES: Begins Tuesday, March 1, 2022 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and

will meet every Tuesday (except holidays) for an ongoing group.  People can join at anytime!

          This mental health therapy group is for teens between the ages of 12-17 who identify along the LGBTQI+ spectrum.  This group is open to teens who identify their sexual orientation as lesbian, gay, bisexual, pansexual, asexual+, and those who are questioning their sexual orientation.  This group is also for teens whose gender identity is cis-gender (accepting of their gender since birth), transgender, non-binary, gender neutral, gender queer, gender fluid, or those questioning their gender identity.  Participants can range from being out of the closet for a long-time, those who are newly out, those who are not ready to come out, and for those who cannot come out due to non-accepting parents/work/church circumstances. ADULT GENDER DIVERSITY GROUP (AGES 18 AND UP)

DATES AND TIMES: Begins Wednesday, March 2, 2022 from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. and

will meet every Wednesday (except holidays) for an ongoing group.  People can join at anytime!
Must call to pre-register for group at 815-639-0300.



           This therapy group is for adults age 18+ whose gender identity is along the spectrum of transgender (male-to-female or female-to-male), non-binary, gender neutral, gender queer, two-spirited, intersex, or those questioning their gender identity.  Participants can be anywhere in the transition process such as pre- or post-hormone replacement therapy or pre- or post-gender confirmation surgeries.  Participants can range from being out of the closet for a long-time, those who are newly out, those who are not ready to come out, or those who cannot come out due to home/work/church circumstances.  Group topics will include but are not limited to: understanding sexual orientation, understanding gender identity, hormone replacement therapy, gender confirmation surgeries, non-HRT/non-surgical changes, legal name and gender marker changes, gender pronouns, healthy dating and safe sex practices, relationships with partners/family/friends/society, managing mood (anger, depression, anxiety), increasing self-esteem, stress management, effective communication and assertiveness training, coping with discrimination or prejudice at home/school/work, advocacy/activism for LGBTQIA+ rights, LGBTQIA+ resources, and more!

Spectrum of Rockford L.G.B.T.+ Counseling Program's Center is a safe place for those who identify as Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Pansexual, Transgender, Gender Diverse, Non-Binary, Genderqueer, or Intersex. We also welcome those who are questioning their sexual orientation and/or gender identity.  We also love and support the straight and cis-gender people who support the L.G.B.T.I.Q.A.+ community. 

We provide supportive counseling services by clinicians who specialize in L.G.B.T.I.Q.A.+ issues.  Some of our clinicians and staff are also members of the L.G.B.T.Q.I.A.+ community, too.  We provide therapy services such as individual therapy, child/teen therapy, couples therapy, family therapy, and group therapy. 


Additionally, we provide psychological evaluations for our gender diverse community who want hormone replacement therapy (H.R.T.), puberty blockers, or gender confirmation (affirmation) surgery or procedures, and need surgical letters of approval.  These surgeries or procedures may involve the following: various plastic surgeries; facial feminization or masculinization surgery (cheekbones, chin, jaw nose); tracheal shave or chondrolaryngoplasty; chest or "top surgery" such as double mastectomy, breast augmentation (enlargement or reduction), or breast implant reconstruction surgery; genital or "bottom surgery" such as hysterectomy (removal of uterus), oophorectomy or ovary removal surgery, metoidioplasty aka "meta", phalloplasty (construction of penis), scrotoplasty or orchiectomy (testicle or scrotum removal), penectomy, or feminizing genitoplasty (construction of vagina and labia).
