UPCOMING THERAPY GROUPS FALL 2020

SPIRITUALITY AND MENTAL HEALTH THERAPY GROUP (AGES 16+)

FRIDAYS 4:30 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.

DATES 10/2/2020, 10/9/2020, 10/16/2020, 10/23/2020, 11/6/2020. 11/13/2020, 11/20/2020, 12/4/2020, 12/11/2020, 12/18/2020

This therapy group is for people who are wanting to incorporate their spiritual health to increase their positive mental health.  This group will not focus on any specific religious beliefs and is non-denominational.  The group will help participants learn why spiritual health and practices are necessary for optimal mind-body-spirit health.  Spiritual health does not require religious faith or belonging to a religion.  Spirituality can serve as a guiding force: it provides us with a purpose, whether our spiritual practices are rooted in religion, nature, art, or something else.  Spiritual wellness gives people a sense of meaning in life, the ability to make sense of life, and the ability to see spirituality in the positive and negative dimensions of life.  People who are spiritual tend to be happy, content, and grateful with what they have. This sense of well-being contributes to physical health.  Research has shown that there is a significant correlation between emotional health and spiritual maturity - the healthier we become emotionally, the healthier and mature we become spiritually.  Spiritual health is defined by the act of practicing compassion, the capacity for love and forgiveness, integrity and responsibility, generosity and altruism, joy, and mental/emotional fulfillment.  Studies on spirituality and its connection with mental and physical health reveal that it can promote happiness, result in success, reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, and establish healthy relationships with others. It can also act as a shield against various ailments and stress caused by everyday activities. Studies show that a positive spiritual orientation helps people cope and that makes them resilient in the face of life's challenges.  Group topics will include but are not limited to determining your level of spirituality, clearing confusions or blocks to embracing spirituality, coping with any traumatic events that may have turned you away from spiritual practices, increasing coping skills using spiritual practices to manage mental health symptoms, coping with disagreeable partners/family/friends/society, implementing tools to increase spirituality, using your heart energy to free yourself from the ego, and more!
